Although this website is predominantly for women I thought it would be useful to post a guide on beauty gift buying tips for men who might be looking for the perfect present to buy this Valentine's Day.
When it comes to buying gifts most men will to fall into two categories: those who pull out all the works - luxury chocolates, cute teddy bears, dozens of long stem roses, a romantic dinner and/or surprise weekend away in Paris, and those who panic buy something safe (your favourite Gucci perfume) or completely inappropriate like lingerie that's five sizes too big (arghhh!). Personally both options make me want to gag (okay, Paris is an exception but let's keep it realistic?!). Teddies and chocolates are fine but to me it screams generic and boring, as does perfume. I much prefer a present with a more personal touch, that shows the person knows what I like, for instance beauty products!
The problem with wanting a beauty gift is that most men will never be able to get their heads around the allure of a luxurious lipstick or an exotic fragrance, especially to a beauty addict. So ladies, if you're hankering after a gift that doesn't come straight out of Clintons or The Perfume Shop take this link and post it on your Facebook page, Tweet it, accidentally email it to him, heck just leave the window open and hope that he might stumble across it and get some ideas. And guys, if you're reading this and your girlfriend/wife uses a lot of beauty products then listen closely... I'm about to reveal the gift ideas guaranteed to get you in her good books...
Most men stick to buying perfume because it's safe and pretty hard to get wrong. You walk up to the counter, sniff a few samples and pick the strongest, sweetest, most offensive one, right?! If you're planning on going down the perfume route I would strongly suggest staying away from anything 'celebrity' as they tend to be quite tacky and generic, which is unlikely to make your partner feel very special (nothing screams impersonal more than a 30ml bottle of Britney Spears Curious!). I'd suggest going for a more luxury brand like Chanel (see below), Dior or Tom Ford. A bottle of Jo Malone cologne never fails either.
This one word alone is enough to send most women into a frenzy! If you're really stuck for ideas or running out of time Chanel is a fail safe option. It's a super-luxe brand and although not everyone can afford to pay eye-watering prices for a bag or jacket, their makeup range is definitely more affordable and comes with the same high as holding one of their bags (well, sort of!)
Keep it LUXE
Luxurious, overpriced lip palettes, blushers or eyeshadow quads are the type of thing that most women will rarely splurge on because it can seem unnecessary and frivolous. This is where you come in. Although you might feel that it's completely ridiculous to spend ££££'s on a Tom Ford blusher trust me when I say it will be appreciated more than any teddy bear or romantic dinner. These are the types of treats that women will only allow themselves to buy on special occasions so to get it as a gift will make her feel UH-MAZING.
Still stuck? Here are some ideas to get you started. Good luck!
