This month's beauty interview is with a very talented makeup artist - Kaniz Ali. I first met Kaniz when we worked on a shoot together and found her to be SO friendly and lovely, and of course her makeup is UH-MAZING! I'll definitely be asking her to do my wedding makeup (are you listening Kaniz?!) Kaniz is an award winning makeup artist whose work has appeared in magazines (including covers of Asiana and Asiana Wedding), beauty campaigns and Channel 4. She's also worked with celebrity clients like supermodel Mehreen Syed, Rishi Rich and H Dhami, has her own beauty training academy and recently opened up her own restaurant AND charity foundation. Is there anything this woman can't do?!
What products that can be found inside your makeup bag?
Haha! That's the question everyone asks because it's so damn heavy! Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Perfume, Brow Pencil by Chanel, Lovelorn Lipstick by MAC - which I team with MAC's Beurre Lip Pencil - Dallas by Benefit, which is a mix between a blusher and bronzer, and my all time favourite Skin Finish by MAC.
What's the secret to your amazing makeup?!
It definitely has to be MAC Strobe Cream which gives such a nice glow to skin when mixed with MAC Studio Fix Liquid Foundation.
You studied Law and even worked for an International Law Firm! What made you change your career path into makeup?
This is a question I get asked all the time haha. I absolutely loved working for the law firm and it's definitely an experience that I'll always treasure but my true passion has always been makeup so when the time was right I decided to leave law and pursue a career in makeup full time. Four years on and I'm still loving it!
Is there anything exciting coming up in 2013 that you can share with us?
(Grin on her face she responds) 2013 is going to be an amazing year I have lots of exciting projects that I'm going to be working on and it's completely different from anything I've done before. I can't give away too much but I what I can tell you is that I'll be flying out to San Francisco this December to work on a big makeup project for 2013.
What are your tips for women who want to become a makeup artist?
Work hard and never give up. Definitely try and go on a makeup course as you'll pick up a lot of techniques, tips and tricks. Also, try to shadow an established makeup artist if possible and try to get as much work experience as you can.
Are there any beauty products on your shopping list?
Not really. My collection of makeup is very big and I probably have doubles of everything, if not triples!
Perfume: Channel Coco Mademoiselle
Lipstick: MAC Lovelorn and Hue
Makeup Brand: MAC and Nars
Beauty Icon: Hmmmm now that's a tough one! Probably Victoria Beckham, Jessica Alba and Aishwariya Rai
