Skincare essentials for Winter

I think it's fair to say that Autumn has completely bypassed us and we're headed straight into winter - and as a result my skin has suddenly gone from being plump and lustrous to tight and dry... Eeep. Cold weather can be really damaging for skin and the things like central heating or frosty air can diffuse the moisture from our skin, leaving it dehydrated and lacklustre. Every season I make some small changes to my skincare routine in order to let it adjust to the change in weather. For instance, I switch to a slightly thicker face cream or swap a light cleanser for a richer, creamier one. The products listed below are great for winter because they really help give my skin that extra bit of TLC that it needs.

bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturiser £27
This is a gorgeous daytime moisturiser that really hydrates and nourishes my skin during the winter. It's designed for combination skin which means that it won't leave a horrible sheen on my forehead like some other day creams do.

bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Cream £22.95
This is a slightly richer, thicker version of the Purely Nourishing Moisturiser and it's perfect for those days when your skin is really screaming for moisture. It's hard to describe the texture because although it's quite thick and feels like you're slathering on a really rich face cream, it absorbs really quickly and feels super light on my skin. I also like to use it as a night cream.

Decleor Aroma Night Rose D'Orient Soothing Night Balm
This super luxurious face balm can be used at night for a more peaceful sleep. I usually warm the balm up between my fingers and then massage it into my skin (it comes with special instructions on how to apply it but I don't really faff around with all that...) The creamy, melt-in texture keeps the skin soft and supple and the rose helps soothe and calm sensitive skin. This is a lovely treat for your skin when it's feeling really polluted and tired.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate £49
Your skin works much harder overnight so it's really important to apply the right products before bedtime. If my skin starts looking really dull or it feels a little tight I apply a few drops of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate under my night cream and I wake up to softer, firmer, brighter, all-round wonderful skin! If you're serious about skincare I'd definitely urge you to invest in an overnight serum or treatment as the ingredients are a lot more concentrated, meaning that it'll work harder and deliver better results than normal, everyday products.

bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Mask £39.90
The cold air and lack of sunlight during winter leaves my skin looking really dull so I'm always on the lookout for a quick fix to inject some life back into it. I use the bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Mask once a week to get an instant glow. Simply massage the gel on to your skin and it lathers up into a foam (it looks a bit like shaving gel!) and after about five minutes wash it off to reveal brighter, smoother skin! The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion £13
This is another great product for waking up dull, tired skin and I like to use it in the morning to give my skin a  quick boost. Read the full review here.

What are your skincare essentials? I've got a shopping list of new products that I really want to try this winter!
